Baien was a naturalist known for his accurately illustrated works on the flora and fauna of Japan. He drew his picture subjects from life which was unusual at the time. He published his realistic sketch in many books. This gallery shows the forty-nine pictures that he included in volume one of Baien Sōmoku Kafu (Baien’s Flower Picture Album).
